Cobi took a bottle without any issues, so if I am by myself or DW wants a break I can bottle feed him. I don't feel as though it really caused any issues with me bonding with DS. The first month or so it seemed like that, but now every time he sees me he grabs for me :) makes me smile every time

We found that Little Jacks like the mam bottles the best. The only reason I can think of is that the nipple is shaped more naturally.

@Mr. Jacks: You're right... if a breastfeeding baby also takes a bottle, then it's very different!

@Colby: Awesome that he takes a bottle too!

To answer the question: Not at all!

Wow...I/we should feel lucky!

Our 3 month old (almost 4 month old) has been on breast milk since his first hour. My wife started pumping breast milk when she returned to work after 2 months. My wife still breast feeds him when we're home with him. I get up with him almost every morning and feed him a bottle of pumped breast milk. I spend a lot of time with him when I'm not working, so I don't feel separated or left out at all.

We had minimal trouble finding a bottle that he would take. He wouldn't touch the Philips Avent bottle, but has been doing great with the Gerber Essentials bottles. The classes recommended the more expensive Philips Avent, but also cautioned us that the baby would make the choice for us. Boy were they right!

Short answer, yes, long answer, no.

Our oldest was breast fed from day one. Mrs. Jacks was able to stay home with her for the first 4 months and then I took over when we moved and I started working remotely. Trying to get her to take a bottle was the most painful experience I have had with a baby. It took me over a month for her to take 1 ounce from a bottle (for the first few weeks it was 10 mls at a time at best). Little jacks is still a mommy's girl, there is no doubt. But since I was able to spend so much time with her, we have our own special bond.

As for jack jack, she took to a bottle from day one. I was also able to take 6 weeks off work to focus on both little ones so I got to spend a lot of quality time with her from the get go. We have a similar bond that Mrs. Jacks and little jacks has.

So as I said, yes it did make it tougher to make that bond grow between little jacks and I but the time I spent with jack jack made that same bond harder for Mrs. Jacks and her.

I have two kids, and usually take charge of watching the older one (2 1/2 years old)... while my wife watches the younger kid (11 months).

I have never watched the 11 month old all day, because she's still breastfeeding and she doesn't like to take a bottle (of pumped breastmilk) except from her nanny. Since I can't handle the feedings by myself, we usually just divide and conquer on the kids. It's an efficient system, and works really well for the whole family.

I think the net result though (and it's entirely my fault) has been that I'm not really that close to my daughter yet... it's something I want to address in the coming weeks. Maybe I just start bottle-feeding her the pumped milk. I dunno? I gotta do something though, because it's not good long term. She's probably going to be breastfed for another 4 months, at least.

Do you ever wonder if breastfeeding is creating distance between you and your child? Do you bottlefeed, or do you just find other ways to spend a lot of time with your child?
